What if your cat could talk to you about Preventative Medicine?

Preventative medicine is not only important for people, but it is equally important for keeping our cats living long and happy lives. Since cats are unable to speak, they rely on their owners to provide the best possible care for them. If they could speak, what would they say to us?

One of our many jobs is to help you make proactive decisions regarding your cat’s health by providing preventative care. Each week, we see patients with problems that go unnoticed until they reach a more advanced state and begin to produce visible symptoms. We have over 30 years of experience in Feline Internal Medicine, Surgery and Dentistry. Here are some of our most important pillars in Feline Preventative Care.

Annual Wellness Exams

Most of us visit our MD and dentist yearly. Your cat needs to visit his or her doctor at least once yearly. In the case of cats over the age of 10, twice yearly is advised. Annual Wellness Exams make a major impact with regard to your family member’s quality of life. We can track your cat’s metabolic health and diagnose problems such as Diabetes, Hyperthyroidism and Cardiac Disease, in early stages. Additionally, we can show owners what to watch out for as cats progress through their lives and take a holistic approach to their health care.

Feline Vaccinations: Do not underestimate the enemy

The clinic follows the AAFP (American Association of Feline Practitioners) vaccination protocol. At Cat Care Clinic, we constantly research the latest vaccine technologies and are committed to provide our clients with the very best vaccines available and at the best possible prices. Remember, there is a big difference in vaccine quality out there. By the time people discover this, it’s often too late. We are doing our homework for you. Each cat will receive a vaccination protocol created specifically for their own needs.

Feline Dentistry

Proper Dental care is extremely important to your cat’s overall health. Without good dental care, we see the early onset of Kidney and Cardiac disease, as well as problems with many other internal organ systems. We have a page, on this site, which provides greater detail and comparative pictures for you to evaluate your Cat’s teeth from the comfort of your own home.

Parasite Control

Most owners forget that if your cat has parasites, such as fleas or intestinal worms, the annual visit is often their only chance to get help. Endo and Ecto Parasite control is very easy. If your cat goes outside, we strongly advise an adult de-worming once yearly. New kittens should be de-wormed here (even if done at a shelter or pet store). Remember to bring a fecal sample in a zip lock bag so that we can test it under the microscope.

Nutritional Management: An integrated, whole body approach

Our Clinic provides Prescription Diets from Hills, Royal Canin and Purina as well as custom diets that can be made specifically for your cat. We take an integrative approach to Feline Nutrition. Diets must provide essential amino acids, carbohydrates and fatty acids as well as vitamins and minerals. Each cat’s age and health needs must be taken into consideration when selecting diets. We are here to guide you beyond the television commercials.
